Workers evacuated after hazmat spill

By Brittany Abuhoff
Staff Writer

Workers were evacuated Monday from the Boston Children’s Hospital after hazmat investigators responded to a chemical spill.

According to officials, the spill happened just after 8:30 p.m. and was soon deemed non-hazardous by city firefighters. No patients were affected by the spill.

According to District Fire Chief Paul Miller, the spill took place on the 10th floor of the John F. Enders Pediatric Research Laboratory. A hot plate was left on, causing a plastic container to melt and leak the chemical eosin.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and evacuated several workers.

According to a hospital spokesperson, the cleanup will be routine and not require any exceptional precautions.
