Boston Calling returns to City Hall Plaza

By Marjorie-Sarah Atkinson
Staff Writer

This spring, the popular music festival Boston Calling will return to City Hall Plaza.

On the weekend of Memorial Day, May 27-29, an eclectic assortment of musical artists will take the stage for this annual event.

Performers include indie pop singer-songwriter Elle King, pop-rock band HAIM, indie folk singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens, indie rock band The Front Bottoms, indie rock singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, folk and acoustic singer-songwriter Dallas Green—who performs under the alias of City and Colour—psychedelic soul and R&B singer Janelle Monáe, and pop star Sia Furler, better known as Sia.

Ticket prices for the rain-or-shine event are: $60 for general admission on Friday and $150 for VIP admission on Friday, $160 for a two-day weekend general admission and $325 for a two-day weekend VIP admission, $185 for a three-day general admission, and $375 for VIP three-day admission.

The box office opens at 5 p.m. on Friday, with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and the music ending around 11 p.m., and opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday,  with the gates opening at noon and the music also ending around 11 p.m.

The main entrance to City Hall Plaza is located on Congress Street and is most accessible by the T stops at the Haymarket or State Street stops for the Orange Line, as well as State Street for the Blue Line, Park Street for the Red Line, and Haymarket for the Green Line.

If public transportation is not possible, the preferred parking garage is the Government Center Garage, located at 50 New Sudbury Street.

The Boston Calling website is also advertising openings for this year’s street team. They are asking for “passionate, dedicated, reliable, hardworking music lovers” to help advertise and get the word out for the festival.  Members of the street team must have “effort and dedication over the next few months” leading up to the festival in May.  Rewards for joining the street team include financial compensation, festival passes, and event merchandise.

Visit bostoncalling.com/info.html for more information about the event.
