Fenway sex assault suspect arrested

By Lindsey Stokes
Staff Writer

Boston Police have a suspect in custody after a sexual assault at a woman’s home in the Fenway neighborhood.

Police say Michael Purpura a 36-year-old man from Westwood, M.A., forced a woman into her apartment in the early morning hours of Sept. 15 and sexually assaulted her.

A surveillance video showing Purpura leaving the area was released the day after the attack in an effort to identify him.

In a separate incident, Purpura has also been charged with the attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old Winchester, M.A. girl. Police say Purpura attempted to abduct the girl Sept. 19 near an athletic field by grabbing her and placing his hand over her mouth.

The girl was able to escape by kicking and screaming. Security cameras were also used in this case to identify Purpura. He has been charged with attempted kidnapping but may face more charges, according to police.

Purpura turned himself in to Medford police Sunday morning. He was arraigned in Roxbury District Court Monday on the charge of aggravated rape.
