To the editor:
I was very glad to see the article “Johnson published on international anti-violence website” (front page, Feb. 6). It was great that Sarah Kinney brought attention to something positive that a Simmons student did in the fight against violence against women.
When people like Marissa Johnson speak out, I hope it reinforces the fact that people who have been victims of abuse should not feel shame, embarrassment, or loneliness. It helps to create a culture in which women are encouraged to speak up, voice their anger and fears, and come together in solidarity.
Once again, I applaud the article and the inclusion of the poem. Congratulations to Marissa Johnson on her accomplishment!
Sincerely,
Nicole DeSimone
