The Sexuality, Women & Gender Center, better known as SWAG, is a student-run intersectional feminist organization with a mission to educate the Simmons community on health and social issues. The Center is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space that empowers everyone.

Every week, the general body of SWAG discusses a “hot topic”: a discussion topic that has been researched by the executive board. The topics center around issues pertaining to sexuality, women, and gender.

All meetings are held in open forum format and encourage open discussion amongst all members.

SWAG is led by Shane Giraldo, a senior who has been part of the organization since their first year at Simmons.

“I joined SWAG my first semester as the SGA Representative,” said Giraldo. “I’ve really loved being a part of this organization my past four years, I can see how much it has benefitted the community through education at meetings and holding fund events for everyone to be a part of.”

The Center does more than just hold weekly meetings. SWAG sponsors and co-sponsors many campus events, including Take Back the Night, Feminism and Dessert, the Calling for Choice Music Festival, and Love Your Body Week, just to name a few.

SWAG meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Student Activities Center. The time was chosen in particular to be wary of the needs and schedules of commuter students and Dix Scholars.
