The Voice caught up with Brittany Redfield, Class of 2015, to see what she has been up to post-Simmons. How was the transition between school and the real world? My transition wasn’t all that hard mostly because I just went home. I think the hardest part was having the motivation to go out and do things career-wise because I didn’t have resources I did at Simmons.

How has Simmons prepared you for this transition?

Simmons prepared me because I had the skills to put myself out there and know where to look for help.

What is your job?

I am currently working as a teacher at a daycare. While I’m not in a job in the field I majored in, I still am able to apply a lot of the values and skills I learned at Simmons like how to be a leader and communication skills. Communicating with a toddler is a different kind of challenge but I do work with parents and co-teachers. And I do put my music degree to good use. I think I know more kids’ songs than I do current pop songs.

What is your favorite part of your Simmons experience?

My favorite part of the Simmons experience was the friends I made and the community I was a part of. Through them I got to explore new interests and learn so many new things. The friendships I made there are ones I will treasure forever.

Wise words for the class of 2017?

My advice for the class of 2017 is to explore, try new things, and have fun. You will learn a lot and grow so much as a person from your experiences in AND out of the classroom. I hope you love your time here as much as I did.
