The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is considering an increase in fares as well as prices to park in its lots.
The hikes would be used as a way to reach the goal of $40 million in additional revenue by 2017. The MBTA has not yet specified how much parking prices and fares could increase or when the increases would go into effect.
Critics of the hikes say they are inappropriate considering the MBTA’s poor performance this past winter.
The agency is also moving forward with plans to lease more of its properties to private developers. State officials are expected to meet with 300 representatives from outside companies to discuss how they can rent out or advertise on property owned by the MBTA and other agencies.
