In an email sent to students Friday night, Deputy Chief of Simmons Police Vito Scotti warned students of a security situation involving the ride share company Uber.
According to Scotti, an unidentified male in his mid-to-late-30s operating a dark, four-door vehicle falsely identified himself as an Uber driver to a Simmons student and told the student to enter the vehicle.
After the student referenced the license plate against the confirmation sent by Uber and the two did not match, the driver sped off in the opposite direction.
A spokesperson for Uber told WBZ news that Uber provides the license plate number and driver in- formation to riders to ensure rider safety.
In the campus alert Scotti encouraged students to use caution when traveling, especially at night.
