During the beginning of the academic year students at Simmons test the waters in a multitude of clubs and activities. Driven by passion and interest, students flow toward the activity that moves them. Not so far back in Simmons history, other women were doing the same thing.
The college’s beginning also had extracurricular activities. The policies of dorm life and accepted social customs didn’t allow for students to leave campus.
In 1946-47 the Modern Dance Club began. Students were admitted on basis of their talent and enthusiasm. It was advised by a semi-pro dancer. They had weekly meetings and the participants attended two all-college dance symposia. They performed frequently and collaborated with other groups and colleges in the surrounding area.
