Stormy’s Spotify Wrapped

The Voice spoke with Stormy the Shark to see how their year was through their Spotify Wrapped.

As 2023 comes to an end, we can reflect on how the year went for us. The shows we binge-watched, the steps we took, and the music we listened to all tell the story of our year. The Voice spoke with Stormy the Shark to see how their year was through their Spotify Wrapped.

Stormy had a lot to say about their Spotify streams this year, starting with their most streamed artists. “Every night before I go to sleep I listen to ocean sounds,” said Stormy of their top artist. “They remind me of my home and soothe me, but every year they dominate my wrapped. At this point, I have just learned to accept it.”

When I asked about boygenius, Stormy explained that after listening to a lot of Phoebe Bridgers in January they started listening to Bridgers’ band. It became one of their favorite bands of the year. “I loved the boys’ new album ‘the record,’ it’s just one of those albums you can listen to all the way through. No skips.” As the two leading ladies of music this year, it was not a surprise to see Beyoncé and Taylor Swift on Stormy’s wrapped. They have “been a swiftie since [they were] a pup,” and this year streamed at least one song from “Speak Now” and “1989 Taylor’s Version” “almost every day.” They added that “the Queen B never misses” and “‘Renaissance’ is an A-tier album.”

Back to boygenius with Stormy’s top song! Though they did not get a chance to see Bridgers, Dacus, and Baker in person this fall at MGM Music Hall, they said they “get a rush of energy” whenever they hear the opening notes of “Not Strong Enough.”

Though their favorite Taylor Swift era is “hands down 1989,” “folklore” made their top songs list with “August.” They explained that the song reminds them of “warm summer days spent at the New England Aquarium with friends.”

Tyla, a newer artist, can always get Stormy dancing. They said, “‘Water’ is just such a vibe. It is on all of my hype-up playlists.” Another hype song for Stormy this year was “Speed Drive” by Charli XCX. “When I watched the Barbie movie I loved all the music, but ‘Speed Drive’ was just so good,” they explained. “I swear I listened to it for months straight, and now I’m kind of sick of it.” Stormy wanted to emphasize that they still love Charli XCX, they just played the song too many times over the summer.

“One of Your Girls,” a single from Troye Sivan’s new album “Something to Give Each Other,” made it into Stormy’s top songs too. To them, the song is “just so chill.” They emphasized that it’s something they blast all day.

Overall, 2023 was a great year for music, and it is safe to say that Stormy the Shark has pretty awesome music (and ambient sound) taste!
