Have you ever wanted to see a film in one of the oldest cinemas in the Boston area? No need to travel far; our very own Coolidge Corner Theatre is here for your enjoyment.
Originally a church built in 1906, this cinema palace has never once closed its doors. Though it’s changed much over its many years of operation, the modern cinema is a labyrinth of film for cinephiles and tourists alike. Students can even enjoy $14 tickets to see any new or re-released film that the Coolidge is showing.
The theatre’s signature programs will give watchers of any age or background a chance to see something they enjoy. Their “Big Screen Classics” program re-releases expertly crafted restorations of those good ole’ classic movies. Their “After Midnite” signature plays old and new avant-gard and camp films with late night Friday and Saturday showings.
My favorite program as a Simmons student is “Calling the Shots” featuring films created by and/or starring females in the film industry! If you want to see the newest big screen hits such as “Project Hail Mary” or “The Drama,” this is the perfect place for you.
If you’re a lover of film, Coolidge Corner Theatre offers educational programming. From Irish to Indian film, you can take these courses and learn the behind-the-scenes of beautiful works. Depending on your dedication level, you can decide to do longer classes, one night seminars or discussions.
Next time you’re in Coolidge Corner grabbing ice cream from J.P. Licks or getting produce at the Trader Joe’s, stop by the Coolidge and see the past, present and future of film.
