You just got out of your last class, and you have a whole hour until your next one starts. There’s just one problem – you have a Zoom call to get to ASAP and you’re already on academic.
Don’t want to walk back to your dorm, but need ideas for where to go? Here are seven spots on the Simmons academic campus to take an online class or meeting call.
A study room in the library
The golden child of “places to take an online call” is the library’s study rooms, which are easily accessible from any point on campus. You can book a room through the Simmons University library website. There are no volume restrictions for these rooms, although they are not soundproof. Added bonus – most have TV screens! The only difficulty you may encounter is reserving one, as these spots are known to book up fast. Plan ahead!
The Stacks
The Stacks are located before the Main College Building entrance to the library, accessible via stairs and elevator. With towering shelves that amp up the studious vibes and plenty of tables and chairs, working here will make you feel productive. However, the Stacks are a quiet space, so this area would be better for an online class or lecture rather than a meeting.
Common Grounds
Although Common Grounds may be a common space and therefore on the noisier end, it has plenty of space to spread out and grab a quiet corner. Common Grounds is highly accessible for students and conveniently located at the heart of the academic campus, so you can get to and from where you need to be with ease.
Bonus – you can order food or drinks while you wait for your next meeting from Common Grounds or the Fens right downstairs!
Rooftop garden on the Drinan building
When the weather’s nice, embrace a green space and check out the rooftop garden on the fifth floor of the Management Building! The fresh air and sunshine is sure to lift your spirits. Seating is limited outdoors, but there are spots inside with large windows to still get that sunny feel. Although said sun may give you a bit of solar glare.
An empty classroom
Ducking into an empty classroom can provide plenty of space for you to hold a meeting or attend an online class. Some rooms may even have materials you need, like computers, paper, projectors and whiteboards. Just make sure you know when the room is being used next so you don’t have to pack up quickly with a professor waiting! Most rooms have schedules printed right outside the door.
Library booths
The One Simmons redesign of our library added many study spots that work well, including the new booths! A few are scattered in the connector hallway between the Main College Building and the library – they are surprisingly spacious and offer plenty of table space for two, along with an outlet to plug in your tech.
There are a few more located inside the library near the circulation desk, which offer a slightly quieter space that could be preferable for an online call. These booths offer easily accessible spots, so you won’t have to worry too much about how to get to your next class.
Hidden lounges in Lefavour
Unless you’re frequently on the top floors of Lefavour Hall, you may not know about the hidden lounge spaces that could be a great space for online calls! Tucked in the back of the building, these spaces have comfy chairs and tables, as well as a printer on the third floor. Their locations have pros and cons: they’re tucked away so you won’t have to worry about the surrounding area being too loud, but they could be far from your next class.
With plenty of great options available all over our academic campus, you can easily find a convenient and comfortable spot to join your next online class or meeting. Just make sure to use your headphones or earbuds!
