Letter to the Editor

To The Editor:

On November 23, 2013, SWSG is going into outer space! We will be bringing the girls in our program to Simmons where they will undergo training for their top-secret space mission. They will be going through extensive astronaut training (how to walk on the moon, etc.) and learning all about space and the planets. We have a lot of excited girls who cannot wait to bring their “girl power” from Earth to Space!

Field trips are a very big event in our program.  All semester we, as mentors are going to the schools and community centers of our girls and at the field trips they come to see our school and community in which we have grown and flourished as strong women. Seeing our school also provides reinforcement that going to school and aspiring to go to college is important for our futures and in being a successful, educated women. In the past we have had field trips about women in politics and healthy living and we also had an opportunity to sleep over at the Science Museum with the girls.

These girls are young, impressionable, and look up to us as positive role models of what they can do with their lives; and we want to give them the best field trip we can, but need your help to pull it off!

If there are any volunteers that are willing to help us on this Saturday in November please contact Jennie Holloway at jennie.holloway@simmons.edu or Hayley Collins at hayley.collins@simmons.edu.

Lend a hand and show your strength as a positive role model in a young girl’s life!
