On Feb. 18, 2017, Simmons students dressed up to attend the annual soirée event hosted by Simmons’ Campus Activities Board. It was an evening for people to relax with their friends and partners after a busy week at school. There was food, dancing, and a beautiful view overlooking Boston and the harbor.

The dance’s theme this year was “a starry night” and was held at the State Room: A Longwood Venue. The State Room is on the 33rd floor of the 60 State Street building, a popular choice for wedding receptions and corporate events. The venue had huge windows that allowed students to take stunning photos of themselves standing above the city.

The location was a bit of a trip for the buses so many students waited outside for awhile. However, many students found that taking an Uber or a Lyft made the journey
quicker.

Some students were upset at the end of the evening after being told that those taking the buses should leave earlier in order to prevent a long wait time at the end. Since dinner started at 7 p.m. and did not end until roughly 8:30 p.m., students who took the buses only had about an hour and a half to dance before being asked to leave at a timely pace.

While there were mixed reviews of the evening as a whole, overall people enjoyed themselves. Students were excited to eat food that was not from Bartol and they especially loved the flourless dark chocolate cake desserts.

For those who could drink legally, there was a nice area located above the dance floor that was sectioned off for them to enjoy their beverages while still feeling like they were a part of the party. The DJ at the event was engaging and approachable. While some students wished for more variety in the songs played, everyone still had fun on the dance floor.

Soirée is a fun tradition that Simmons students look forward to every year. The location and  theme changes, but the excitement of picking out the perfect outfit and being with friends never does.
