No matter how much you may want to deny it, summer is officially over. Even though it is already late October, the warm season only just ended. You know what that means–– all of your favorite summer pieces get shoved towards the back of your closet until spring, and the goodbye is always a little rough.
But what if it doesn’t have to be that way? You don’t have to say farewell to all the pieces that rocked your summer quite yet.
This can be done through a few simple tricks that will totally alter your fall wardrobe and maybe even save you a few extra dollars on new clothes.
The first major key is layering. Did you fall hard for the major summer trends like off-the-shoulder tops and slip dresses? A few easy layering tricks will not only keep you warm, but also amp up your style to fit this fall’s upcoming trends.
It may seem unconventional, but the most fashion-forward way to wear an off-the-shoulder top this season is with a long-sleeved top underneath. For this, think fitted turtlenecks or even button-down shirts.
This can also be applied to your favorite sleeveless dresses. In fact, wearing long-sleeved tops under sleeveless dresses is a major fall trend on its own.
There are already major A-list celebrities trying it out, including Emma Roberts, Olivia
Palermo and Cara Delevingne, as well as countless street style stars and fashion bloggers. The trend also appeared on the runways of Altuzarra and Valentino for Fall Fashion Week.
Under your dress, a simple pair of black tights will always work. They’re functional, chic, and will go with almost everything else in your closet.
If you want to go for a bolder look, try wearing your dress with a pair of jeans underneath. It may seem unexpected, but it will give you major fashion points.
Another popular summer piece you may not want to relinquish just yet is an open-toed heel. How do you do this? Pairing them with tights or socks.
Even though socks and sandals are known to be the ultimate fashion faux pas, things are changing this season. This look was first spotted at Spring Fashion Week just last month.
For a classic and sophisticated take on this trend, pair your heels with a set of sheer tights, as seen on the Céline runway. If you would rather opt for a fresh and fun look, pair them with printed tights, showcased by Altuzzara.
Try any of these tricks and you’ll be good to go. That is, until the weather drops to under 30 degrees. But when it does, we’ve got you covered.
