Have you ever found yourself bored out of your mind on a Saturday night? Are you stuck going to the same three spots over and over again? Here is a collection of some of the best ways to spend your weekend nights for those not quite 21 yet.
To bring out your competitive side, Knight Moves Cafe, located in Coolidge Corner, is stacked with hundreds of games ranging from HedBanz to Clue. With a $15 all-you-can-play fee and a 2:00 a.m. close time on Friday and Saturday, it is the perfect, college-student-friendly spot. You can even bring outside food or beverages for a $5 fee, or simply order in at their kitchen and bar!
Strike! For a more energetic (but still competitive!) night out, a short walk over to Lucky Strike Fenway offers 16 bowling lanes, an arcade with billiards and air hockey, and plenty of food and drinks for everyone. Open until 2:00 a.m. on the weekends, it’s the perfect spot to spend the entire night.
For those self-acclaimed cinephiles, the Coolidge Corner Theater offers late-night movies under the name After Midnites. Starting at 11:59 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, these viewings are of horrifying, weird, camp, avant-garde, tripped-out or cult films.
This is the perfect way to grab some popcorn, relax and get out of the dorms. Keep an eye on their website for these screenings, which are occasionally marked as free!
To get your boogie on, ManRay, a queer-friendly and alternative nightclub, is the perfect spot. Located in Cambridge, MA, it offers themed nights for those 19+ with covers often ranging from $10 to $15.
Creative attire is encouraged, and each event has a dress code, typically enforcing no caps or sports attire. I recommend heading out with a group of friends to dance the night away!
A simple walk along the Charles River Esplanade is the cheapest and easiest way to spend a night. With the weather getting warmer, it is the perfect time to step outside and get some incredible skyline views.
I recommend grabbing a bite on Newbury Street and heading over afterward so you’re not going on an empty stomach! Additionally, you can bring some picnic blankets and grab a seat on the docks to make it a more relaxed affair.
If your stomach starts rumbling, it’s best to head to Penguin Pizza for a delicious pie. While this place does offer alcoholic beverages, it’s also the perfect place to grab a bite, play some card games and catch up with friends until 1:00 a.m. on the weekends.
Additionally, they hold trivia nights every Wednesday from 7-8:00 p.m., with first place earning a $30 gift card and second place earning a $15 gift card. Being small, family-owned and closely connected to college students has made this spot a fan favorite for my friend group.
Whether you are looking for a mellow night filled with movies and board games or a night out on the dancefloor, there is something for everyone; sometimes you just need to dig through Boston to find its gems!
