This year’s Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, February 1, celebrated the year’s biggest music and the people who created it.
The most memorable part of the night, for me and many others, comes before the winners are even announced: the red carpet. Star’s looks litter social media and opinions on their outfits are often a point of contention.
Regardless of varying perspectives on how the looks landed, there were clear textures and trends that showed up again and again throughout the night. Let’s go through and look at the similarities in outfits worn at music’s biggest night.
White
Addison Rae
Addison Rae’s white AlaÏa dress on the red carpet was the epitome of business in the front, party in the back.
Kesha
Kesha’s shaggy off-the-shoulder dress was bright white, sure to catch some eyes on the red carpet.
Sabrina Carpenter
Carpenter’s custom-made Valentino gown owned the red carpet. It was effortlessly chic and its cut, ruffles and cape gave it an Old Hollywood feel. The “Manchild” singer wore an all-white play on a pilot’s uniform for her performance later in the night, as well.
Audrey Nuna
Audrey Nuna, voice of Mira in “KPop Demon Hunters,” stunned in a Thom Browne piece that used varying shades of white all throughout.
Feathers
Tyla
Tyla’s Dsquared2 gown was my favorite look of the night, with sparkles on the top and a full feather train completing the bottom.
Olivia Dean
Dean, Best New Artist winner, sported a feathered midsection in a black and white Chanel gown.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga never fails to make good use of a red carpet. The Best Pop Vocal Album winner wore a fully feathered black dress, complete with a high neck and trailing train.
Doechii
While presenting for Best Rap Album, Doechii stunned in a full-feather maroon skirt, inspired by one of Isabella Rossellini’s iconic Death Becomes Her outfits.
Sequins/Sparkles
Sombr
Sombr’s Valentino suit was full of shine, sparkling silver on the red carpet. He wore a similar, disco-inspired, Valentino suit while performing his song “12 to 12” on the Grammy stage.
Zara Larson
The “Midnight Sun” singer embraced her album’s title track in a glowing golden two piece set on the red carpet.
Kelsi Ballerini
Ballerini’s halter Etro dress oozed elegance, shining black and gold with a complementing feathered train.
Laufey
Laufey donned a beaded flapper Miu Miu dress on the red carpet, stunning in lilac with silver accents.
Velvet
Pharrell Williams
The Dr. Dre Global Impact Award winner sported a light pink velvet suit on the red carpet.
Bad Bunny
The Album of the Year winners velvet Schiaparelli tux had a golden corset detail going down the spine. The unique look was Schiaparelli’s first major menswear red carpet appearance.
Benson Boone
Boone ditched his usual sequin jumpsuit for a black velvet suit with subtle sparkling details.
Angelique Kidjo
Kidjo was the picture of elegance walking down the red carpet in a custom Louis Vuitton velvet maroon suit.
Matching
KATSEYE
The girl group’s seven members each wore a variation of either a white lace or silver floorlength gown on the red carpet. For their performance, they also went for a matching color scheme of army green, black and pops of yellow.
HAIM
The Haim sisters each wore their own version of a long black skirt and silver straps.
FLO
The British trio wore royal blue on the bottom with black and blue sparkles on the top, each in their own way.
Clipse
The Best Rap Performance winners matched with Pharrell Williams in pink velvet suits on the red carpet.
While there were many other notable looks and trends at the event, it will be exciting to see how they are specifically manifested in upcoming fashion. Who knows how soon it will be until a feathered look finds its way into Bartol dining hall. While we wait, let’s enjoy the shared love these trends saw at the 68th annual Grammy Awards.
