Ben & Jerry’s celebrates Free Cone Day 2014

By Ellen Garnett
Staff Writer

“Peace, Love & Ice Cream.” That is one of Ben & Jerry’s mottos promoted at their annual Free Cone Day, their self-recognized, global holiday to honor their customers’ loyalty.

Ben & Jerry’s has been scooping out thank yous every year since their first anniversary in 1979. Their website invites customers to “feel good about each scoop” by looking into their company’s dedication to their corporate social responsibility related involvements. Among these include their commitment to sourcing Fairtrade certified ingredients, to ensure all of their paperboard comes from environmentally friendly sources, and to support mandatory GMO labeling.

Fans of Ben & Jerry’s showed their support by posting pictures of themselves eating ice cream to Instragram with the hashtag #FreeConeDay. Tweets with this hashtag as well as these pictures were collected in a gallery that live-streamed onto their website.

Three Ben & Jerry’s locations in Boston participated in Free Cone Day. The Prudential Center, Park Plaza and Newbury Street. If you missed Free Cone Day, there is always next year! Or if you can’t wait that long for ice cream, like most of us, there is always Shaw’s and Quadside.
