BREAKING: Simmons changes COVID testing requirements due to vaccine compliance and dropping cases

BREAKING: Simmons decreases the number of required COVID tests from two per week to one.

A February 23 email from the Office of Student Affairs announced the change, citing “outstanding vaccine compliance, decreasing numbers of COVID cases, and public health information.”

Currently, Simmons student COVID vaccine compliance rests at 88% for undergraduates and 73% for graduate students. Students are required to have full doses of the COVID vaccine and a booster dose, barring medical or religious exemptions.

This vaccine compliance is down from 99% for both undergraduate and graduate students in October. The compliance rate dropped after the booster shot mandate went into effect for the spring 2022 semester.

According to Simmons COVID Dashboard data from February 23, over the past seven days Simmons had 18 positive tests from residential students, commuter students, and employees through on-campus testing.
