The Sharks Basketball team finished the 2013-2014 season with their last home game win against the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, Feb. 15, and two away games last week.
The Sharks clinched their third win against the Blue Jays, 66-63, which was warmly welcomed by fans on senior night. The game was also the Sharks’ breast cancer awareness game.
Senior captains Leah Davis and Hannah May put in 25 points combined, while first-year Liz Brasa netted 15 points.
“We became a lot closer than the basketball team has ever been,” said senior captain Desh Perera. “[We] stuck by each and had each other’s backs.”
Davis, May, Perera, and Team Manager Emily Smalheiser were acknowledged at the end of the game with flowers and a speech from Head Coach Kristen Rasmussen.
“As much as we don’t want to see our seniors go, we appreciate all the hard work and dedication they have given this program,” she said.
The team lost to Rivier University, 72-59, on Thursday, Feb. 20, and to Mount Ida College on Saturday, 55-51, wrapping up the season at a 3-19 overall record.
“The growth and development of the team is not reflected by our record,” said Perera. “If the team can pick up where we left off in the last few games, they should have a very successful year next year and definitely make tournament.”
