Simmons College has the honor of hosting filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay for a screening of his new documentary, “Shadows of Liberty,” on Friday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. A panel discussion with journalists and Tremblay will follow the screening.
“Shadows of Liberty” is a documentary detailing how the U.S. media is controlled by a handful of corporations exercising extraordinary political, social, and economic power. It examines the state of reporting today and includes an impressive cast of characters, including Danny Glover, Julian Assange, Daniel Ellsberg, and Amy Goodman.
The panel consists of Erica Moura, Simmons College graduate and multimedia reporter with The Boston Herald; Katie Eastman, another multimedia reporter with the Herald; Leonard Mailloux, Professor of Communications at Simmons College and First Amendment expert; and filmmaker Jean-Philippe Tremblay.
Panelists will share the best means of obtaining accurate and comprehensive news, their opinions on whistleblowers and WikiLeaks, and their thoughts on censorship.
The screening, hosted by the Simmons Voice, is a great opportunity for journalists and non-journalists alike to learn about the state of media. The event takes place in C103, is free and open to the public, and dinner will be provided.
