Simmons Cross Country finished third at the Wellesley College Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Sharks faced off against hosts the Wellesley College Blue as well as the University of Southern Maine Huskies in the 5,000 meter race.
Junior Shelly Potter finished first for Simmons and 17th overall with a time of 21:09.90, averaging 6:48 per mile. Potter was also named GNAC runner of the week for her performance in the meet.
Just behind Potter was senior Ellen Giroard in second place and 19th overall finishing at 21:15.60 making her mile average 6:51.
Other standout runners in Saturday’s meet included Bre Glynn, Mia DeLuccia, and Sara Harland.
“Right now, we have the potential to do very well in the conference. Obviously, potential means nothing without the desire and ability to work hard,” said Coach Brian Cunningham earlier this season. “That is what we’re doing now, working hard to prepare for the rigors of the cross country race course.
Cross Country returns Thursday, Oct. 3, at 4:30 p.m. at the Pine Manor Invitational.
