As Simmons University’s student-driven newspaper, we are committed to providing our audience with sense-making, community content that is objective and accurate.
The editorial team collaborates diligently to achieve this goal. We emphasize transparency, fairness, integrity and community through our coverage and teamwork.
In accordance with our mission as an editorial team, we are writing to inform the community that an article, that has since been removed, was not published in accordance with our editing and reporting standards. In particular, this article was a conclusion to our earlier coverage of the investigation of the Conductor and Director of Chorus and Orchestra for the Colleges of the Fenway (COF).
The article was originally a developing story open to continuous updates and summarized correspondence sent to COF Music participants from Claire Ramsbottom, the Executive Director of COF, following the investigation’s conclusion, of which there were no findings. It was posted with inadequate editorial review that does not reflect the standards we have set as a team, for one another and for our coverage.
We offer our sincerest apologies for this error in judgment. The piece was posted with inadequate editorial review and violated our Code of Ethics. An appropriate wait time for comment was not given, with the story published earlier than it should have been and taken down without giving visible corrections.
With that in mind, we hope as a team that you continue to trust us in providing you with honest, accurate and accessible student-driven media by the Simmons community and for the Simmons community. Thank you for your support of student journalism, and we look forward to a prosperous academic year ahead.
