On Tuesday, Jan. 24th at 9 a.m., the StarRez Housing Portal opened for students to apply for housing for the 2023-2024 academic year. Shortly after the portal opened, it crashed, making it impossible for students to apply for housing.  The Housing Application will relaunch on Tuesday, Jan. 31st at 9 a.m.

In an email to students, the Office of Residence Life (ORL) explained that the StarRez software shut down due to the high volume of students attempting to access the website at the same time. The ORL stated that they have since worked with the software company to resolve these issues.

Some students were able to access the Housing Application despite the crash. However, the ORL has decided to void these applications and restart the process in order to ensure that the “Room Selection process is equitable for all students interested in living on campus,” as stated in an email to students.

Luciana Libis, a sophomore Psychology major, said that the Housing Portal crash “really stressed [her] out.” Rachel Goldschmidt, a first-year Biology major, also expressed that she was “frustrated,” with the Housing Portal crash.

First-year Exercise Science and Physical Therapy major Chiara Sarkis, referred to the Housing Portal crash as being “really stressful.” “I was excited for it to be over and done with, but now we have to race for [a housing application],” Sarkis added.
