Simmons College will host the first International Women’s Film Forum Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the academic campus at 300 The Fenway. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will view films made by women filmmakers from around the world, participate in panel discussions following the films, meet filmmakers, and dance at the closing salsa party.
Films to be shown are “Wadjda” by Haifaa Al-Mansour; “Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry” by Alison Klayman; “Josh: Independence Through Unity” by Iram Parveen Bilal; “Living Thinkers: An Autobiography of Black Women in the Ivory Tower” by Dr. Roxana Walker-Canton; “Changing Minds at Concord High” by Susan Finley; and “Child of the Revolution” by Xoliswa Sithole.
The International Women’s Film Forum strives to explore issues that are common throughout the world, using film as a medium for discussion. The six films are both documentary and narrative stories which focus on women’s leadership and the fight to combat human rights injustices.
Students and faculty from all institutions are invited to attend.
