The Sharks Basketball team powered through a close first half against Suffolk University on Saturday, Jan. 25, but fell to the Rams, 56-47.
Senior guard Leah Davis earned a season high of 16 points, while senior guard Hannah May added eight points and first-year forward Liz Brasa added seven.
“This past weekend was one [of] our best games as a team,” said Head Coach Kristen Rasmussen. “We played together, fought hard for 40 [minutes] and everyone worked together.”
The scoreboard was 18-22 three seconds before the second half when the Rams posted a three-point shot, ending the first at 22-21, Simmons.
According to Simmons Athletics, the Rams earned a 10-point lead in the second half, which was their largest one that afternoon.
The Sharks worked to push the score with first-year forward Ashley McAdams and first-year guard Kim Hixon adding six to the board in the second, but weren’t able to clinch the win.
“Although we came up short at the end, I am confident that if we continue to play with as much passion, determination, and fight, we will shock a lot of teams in the GNAC,” said Rasmussen.
The team is currently 2-12 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Rasmussen said the team hit a rough patch of injuries this season, but will hope to have 15 strong back this week.
“Simmons Basketball team is working hard and focusing on one game at a time. We still have a good part of the GNAC ahead of us, which is in our favor,” she said.
The Sharks have only eight games left, which are all conference match-ups.
The Sharks head to Vermont to face the Norwich University Cadets tonight, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., and will cross the street to play the Emmanuel College Saints on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m.
