Last spring, as a part of the Scott Ross Center Boston Immersion program, a group of 11 students from Simmons and MassArt worked together to build raised garden beds.

Currently, two are located on the Quad by Simmons Hall on the residential campus. One more will be placed next spring.

Over the summer, Julie Pallozzi, Jackie Suarez, Marlena Vitale, and Fatima Khan planted lettuce, kale, beets, cilantro, carrots, spinach, and more from sprouts they started from seeds.

Now, the group, including Deepa Kumarjiguda and Alexa Ochocki tend to the garden every Sunday at 1 p.m. They are looking for other volunteers. Benefits include being able to take home some fresh produce.

Kumarjiguda thinks their final harvest will be before Thanksgiving, depending on the frost. At that point, any remaining food will be given to Bartol and the garden will lie dormant for the winter.
