June is here, and with it comes Pride Month. No matter how you celebrate, music is a powerful way to connect, express, and celebrate within the community. I’ve curated a collection of empowering anthems, timeless classics, and fresh tracks from LGBTQ+ artists and allies.
This playlist is designed to be the perfect soundtrack for your Pride festivities, capturing a spirit of love, resilience, and unity. So, turn up the volume and feel the rhythm. Let the music inspire you to dance, reflect, and embrace the true essence of Pride.
“Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan
Babe, you’ll be H-O-T-T-O-G-O with any song from Ms. Roan, but this one is a hit for a reason. The anthemic pop song (as she coined it) is a homage to the struggle of coming to terms with your sexuality. AKA, it’s the perfect Pride song to jam to as we celebrate our own personal journeys.
“Solid” by MUNA
We all know and love MUNA. I don’t think this playlist would be complete without a song from them. MUNA is one of today’s best queer bands, and “Solid” is a testament to the realness of sapphic love.
“Bloom” by Troye Sivan
Sivan’s self-proclaimed gay anthem is everything, featuring Sivan’s signature ethereal bubble gum pop sound.
“Von dutch” by Charli XCX
We love Charli XCX in this house. Not only does she make energetic and fun pop hits, but she’s also a huge supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. “Von dutch” is upbeat, energetic, and a beautiful reminder of 2000s pop punk. For an extra kick, listen to the version featuring Addison Rae screaming.
“Pretty Girls” by Reneé Rapp
Reneé Rapp is an icon; from her poor press training, to wicked sense of humor and her ability to craft perfect narratives of the queer experience, you’re sure to love her. And I know you’ll love “Pretty Girls” too.
“Careless Whisper” by George Michael
I will always unironically love this song. I urge you to roll down your car windows and scream along to the chorus. It’s pure catharsis.
“Girls like Girls” by Hayley Kiyoko
This sapphic coming-of-age song is sure to throw you back into your 2015 Tumblr days (hopefully the good ones).
“Lola” by The Kinks
“Lola” was one of the first songs about the trans community to be part of mainstream rock and roll when it was released in 1970. It traces back to traditional classic rock but the rhythm and beat prevent it from aging.
“Pristine” by Snail Mail
What’s a playlist without a moody ballad? “Pristine” is the quintessential encompassment of queer heartbreak and longing.
“Soft Spot” by Claud
This song is perfect for quietly vibing out while contemplating your situationships. The lyrics wash over you- it’s reminiscent of laying in bed as a teenager and overthinking. In the best way possible, of course.
“Sexy to Someone” by Clairo
Clairo’s latest single is hard not to love. Clairo has been making waves as a queer singer for years, making her the perfect addition to your Pride playlist.
Here’s to a wonderful Pride month full of community, joy, and human connection. Oh, and of course, music.
