To celebrate Women’s Centered College Week, the Simmons Student Government Association (SGA) hosted a Murder Mystery Dinner Party on March 20, 2024.
Free masquerade masks were set around the tables, adding a pop of color to the white tablecloths.
After a dinner catered by Aramark, each guest was given a role to play in the murder mystery game. The premise of the game was that each player had been invited by the host of the party, who was murdered after speaking to each guest in private. Every player allegedly had a motive for killing the host.
To figure out who the murderer was, players mingled and asked each other questions about their motives. Some players donned their masquerade masks, providing a sense of mystery.
In a statement to the Voice after the event, SGA wrote, “The Women-Centered College Week Masquerade Dinner took approximately three months to plan, from start to finish…. We spent time researching to find the best version of a murder mystery game that could be executed without a professional team…. While it’s challenging to document every email, text, and conversation that took place over the three months, numerous small moments contributed to the final dinner. We are grateful for the support shown by our guests and hope to organize more events in the future that our student body will enjoy.”
Junior Olivia Raymond was assigned to play a famous author who was secretly using ghostwriters. “I was interested in the mystery…I was excited to hear that they were having one,” she said before the event started.
President Lynn Perry Wooten also attended the event, playing the role of a teacher who possibly committed murder. In regards to the dinner party, she said “It was great after spring break to come together, have some fun, and be in the community.”
