Dear Simmons Community,
Our role as your only student-run newspaper is simple––to provide you with fair, honest, and accurate coverage of the happenings at Simmons.
In accordance with this goal, our senior editorial team has been diligently working to provide you with thorough coverage of student activism and community action at Simmons––particularly in regard to Pro-Palestine walkouts, teach-ins, and rallies.
As you may have noticed, the turnaround times for these stories have been longer than average for the Voice. In our role as student journalists and members of the Simmons community, it is of the utmost importance to us to be sure every student and faculty member who wants to be heard is given the opportunity to reach out to us. We will continue to make every effort possible to speak to everyone who wishes to speak to us.
We would be doing the student body a great disservice to rush these stories into publication without taking the time necessary to conduct thorough interviews, meet with our faculty advisor, and continue to add coverage of the ongoing events on campus.
That being said, our team is struggling to reach students and faculty who are willing to talk to us on the record. We understand the hesitation to interview, and your comfort and safety are far more important to us than any story. However, to capture the full breadth of these stories, we need your help.
This is our call to you––if you would like to share your experience with student activism and/or protest on campus, please reach out to voice@simmons.edu. Our team is prepared to grant anonymity in relevant cases.
Finally, we would like to thank you for your support of the Voice. We know many of you want us to cover what is happening in Gaza, Israel, and the West Bank. However, as student journalists unable to serve as active and reliable on-the-ground sources, we feel it would be irresponsible for us to do so.
We are honored that you trust us for your Simmons news, and we are committed to continuing to share our community’s stories.
