As you may have seen, the Fenway area is a giant construction zone. From the traffic disaster of the Muddy River to the mystery Target and Wegmans, every which-way is under construction. But what is the area actually gaining?
The well-known Landmark Center, which hosts Best Buy, Staples, and Bed, Bath & Beyond, is about to undergo a major addition. Developer Samuels & Associates plans to add 550 apartments, 110,000 more square feet of retail space, including the city’s first Wegmans, and additional parking.
The giant blank slate that sits across from Burger King on Boylston Street has been rumored to be a Target. In 2011, boston.com wrote that developer Steve Samuels hopes to add the area’s first Target department store to the mix. The rumors haven’t been clarified since then, but it could be the boost the area needs.
And last but not least, 1282 Boylston Street, almost directly across from Fenway Park, has sprung up in what seems like a few weeks. The project will rise to 18 floors and include over 300 apartments, according to the Boston Redevelopment Authority. In addition, there will be 10,000 square feet of retail space and almost 300 parking spaces.
These major developments in the Fenway area will no doubt uplift the area all around. With nearly 1,000 apartments going in in the next year, living space and retail opportunities will be at our fingertips.
