Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

The communications internship class (Comm 370) covers important job-getting topics such as resumes, cover letters, and interviews — all of which are necessary for getting an internship. Yet, by the time we enter the class, we’re expected to already have an internship (or get one within the first few weeks of school).
While struggling to write a cover letter to send out, my mom asked me what the point of the class was; after all, she argued, shouldn’t an internship class teach you how to get an internship? I wondered the same thing: What’s the point of a class that teaches you skills you’re supposed to already have just to be in the class?
True, the teacher does send out a list of contacts who are looking for interns, but honestly, finding places isn’t the hard part. In the end aspects of this class are irrelevant .
