Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

Because of the schools I attended growing up, I never learned about reproductive and sexual health. I had to fill in the gaps on my own. My story is hardly uncommon. These gaps in knowledge leave young people vulnerable when they are seeking reproductive health care.

Crisis pregnancy centers prey on this vulnerability. These fake clinics use deceptive advertising to attract women facing unplanned pregnancies. They do not dispense birth control or condoms. They provide no real health services, nor are they staffed by medical professionals. Crisis pregnancy centers lie to women about reproductive health, and their only goal is to prevent women from seeking abortions.

There are at least three crisis pregnancy centers in the Boston area, but only one Planned Parenthood clinic. In fact, CPCs outnumber reproductive health clinics 3 to 1 in Massachusetts.

Students need to know where to go to find quality reproductive health care. But we also need to know where to avoid. Our community should do more to educate each other about CPCs.

Sincerely,

Ren Kenney
