I am an avid Tumblr user, and I recently started following user ad-destroy for her hilarious “Star Trek” fan comics. As I read through her blog, laughing almost constantly, I discovered that she is also the artist and author of her own original webcomic, “Plastic Kings.”

Published on smackjeeves.com, “Plastic Kings” begins by chronicling the adventures of a young king and his wife, who seek the help of the gods of Nature and Death in order to save the life of their firstborn son. It is a fantasy drama with copious amounts of hilarity, an endearing art style, and a storyline that skillfully balances comedy with the weightier storyline of entreating the gods to keep the kingdom’s heir alive.

The comic has been published since March of 2013 and is ongoing. There are 43 pages of it so far, and every page is delightful to read. “Plastic Kings” blends a seemingly traditional fantasy setting with a clean-cut art style and modern dialogue and characters.

This leads to the delicious dichotomy of scenes such as the one in which the king’s courtier announces, “Hear ye! Hear ye! Message from the king!” and proceeds to read the message: “Omigawd you guys I’m so excited about the summer festival. Are you excited? I’m excited.”

Full of hijinks, unexpectedly serious scenes, and boundless energy and humor, “Plastic Kings” is a must-read webcomic.
