Letter to the Editor

To the Simmons Community,

All I have to say this week is that people at Simmons should really have more opinions…or rather they should publish more of them!

I know people here have things to say; I hear pieces of discussions while walking down hallways, floating through open dorm room doors, and filling the air in Bartol and the Fens. I have long discussions with my peers, listening to them vent about this or that, and all I can thing is, “Wouldn’t it feel SO much better to write this all down? Don’t you want people to hear what you have to say?”

We’re part of a group of smart and eloquent students, faculty, and staff and it is so deeply disheartening to—week after week—have an empty folder where we should have tons of submissions.

Whether it’s an impassioned defense of those affected by the recently leaked celebrity photos, a less-than-happy discussion on the upswing on tuition prices, or praise for the restructuring of Meyers Café, your opinions deserve to be heard.

It’s such a shame to let this advantage go to waste. Wouldn’t your voice, the voice most of us spend all school year trying so hard to develop and cultivate, be put to better use if you could reach a broader audience?

If you’re worried about writing a long or polished piece, letters to the editor are a great, less formal option. If you have a lot to say, there’s always the opportunity to submit a formal opinion piece. All you have to do is e-mail voice@simmons.edu. We’re always happy to answer any questions, and even work with you on an idea.

Please, consider submitting to the Voice this year. You all have opinions, I know you do, so why not share them?

Hoping to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,

The Simmons Voice Opinions Editor, Jessie Kuenzel
