This weekend was filled with victory and pride for the Boston Red Sox, who swept their rivals, the New York Yankees, in a three-game home series.

Boston started off strong on Friday night scoring four runs in the first inning while keeping the Yankees at 0. By the bottom of the 7th inning the score was all tied up at 4-4, but was quickly broken when Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a grand slam to bring the score to 4-8 with the Red Sox on top.

The series continued Saturday afternoon with Jon Lester on the mound pitching a solid eight innings and Franklin Morales pitching the top of the 9th. The Red Sox were able to garner five runs between the 2nd and 5th innings while keeping the Yankees down with only one run scored in the 4th inning, resulting in an end score of 5-1.

By Sunday night, both teams were determined to take home a win, but ultimately it was Boston who stole the game with a score of 9-2. The Yankees were able to score two runs on pitcher Clay Buchholz, but it wasn’t enough, leaving the game – and the series – to Boston.

Red Sox manager John Farrell has high hopes for the rest of the season, telling ESPN, “Our confidence continues to grow, this group believes in itself and continues to show it between the lines.”

This series marks the last for the Yankees this year. The loss eliminates New York from the American League East race to the world series for the 2013 season.

The Red Sox hope to continue their streak tonight playing the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10 p.m. and this weekend as they face off against the Toronto Blue Jays for a three day series at Fenway starting off Friday at 7:10 p.m.
