Student assaulted near Wentworth

By Haley Costen
Staff Writer

A Northeastern student was attacked near 578 Huntington Ave. at about 4:20 a.m. on Thursday Sept. 4.

The student was on her way home from work when a man grabbed her by the neck and pulled her into an alley near Wentworth Institute of Technology, according to the Boston Globe.

The victim’s screams alerted a residence hall security officer and prompted the assailant to flee when the officer approached them.

The Boston Police Department announced on bpdnews.com that the suspect is described as a black male approximately 18-25 years old, 6’0” tall, medium build, wearing a gray sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.

The Boston Police Department released surveillance footage of the man on Friday. Officers searched the scene but were unable to locate the suspect.

In addition to the assault, two robberies involving Northeastern students occurred on Sept. 3 and 4 between 9 and 11 p.m. according to Boston.com.  The suspect allegedly demanded the students’ property and stated he had a weapon though nothing was drawn.

The MBTA Transit Police, State Police, Boston Police and Northeastern University Police Department are all investigating these incidents, according to Boston.com.

Sean Collins, Chief of Simmons Campus Police, sent an email urging students to be aware when visiting Huntington Ave and Wentworth.

Collins reminded students not to walk alone at night, to not wear headphones, and to walk in well-lit areas whenever possible. He also suggested that students keep their cell phones charged and to tell someone where they’re going and when they will arrive.

There are also blue light emergency phones located around the campus in case of an emergency.
